Fujian Cross Strait Ferry Corporation is the joint venture with one local government company and Taiwan Trans Wagon Investment Holdings Co., Ltd.(Taiwan background), providing convenient and quick seaway transportation across the Straits for the purposes of speeding up the economic zone construction at the west of Taiwan Straits. The business scope of the company covers maritime transport of passengers, cargo, containers and vehicles both at home and abroad (including cross-strait direct sailing), construction of port terminals, bonded warehouses, oil depots and processing of bonded goods, etc.
THE STRAITS is one of the few full aluminum alloy double piercing high-speed passenger Ro/Ro carriers in the world with the most advanced technology and highest speed, which is also the only one in China. Built at INCAT shipyard in Australia, this vessel is specially featured with “water inlet and injection” that suctions seawater and injects aft to push the vessel forward, which is a pioneering product of high-speed double passenger ships. With LOA of 97.22 meters, BW of 26.6 meters and GT of 6,556 tonnages, it is equipped with 4 injection propellers and able to sail steadily through 4-meter wave at a rated speed of 45 knots. There are quadruple decks for loading in the big hold: the first and second levels for automobiles with auto lanes of 380 meters in length, 3.1 meters in width and 4.35 meters in height, capable of accommodating 260 sedans while converted into one level only for huge trucks; the third and fourth floors for passengers and deck officers (bridge), capable of accommodating 760 passengers.
